The Name 'Andaman' is derived from the Malay word for the Hindu deity Hanuman, and 'Nicobar' means ‘the land of naked people.’
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are one of the most remote spots on the planet, occupied 1,400 km from mainland India and 1,000 km from Thailand.The original inhabitants are various aboriginal tribes who exist more or less out of the mainstream. There are some tribes who have had no contact whatsoever with the rest of the world.Of nearly 600 islands, only 9 are open to foreign tourists, and all of these are in the Andamans.
Its a large group of Island (around 600 Island) In bay of Bengal, politically closer to Indonesia and Myanmar than to the Indian mainland. The most widely spoken language on the islands is not Andamanese or Nicobarese.The most common language here is Bengali followed by Hindi, Tamil, Telgu and Malayalam.
The tribes inhabiting these islands don’t interact with outsiders.Residents of these islands mainly belong to the ‘Jarwa’ tribe, fondly known as the adivasi. if you are palnning to visit Island you will get flight from delhi,Chennai,Kochi daily services. An Indian citizen may need a ID card for visit andaman Island. And iF you are planning by sea it will take 4 days to reach the Island Its very risk to try sea transportation. The bay of bengal not calm, you may get sick It will effect your trip.
